A Lifetime of Friendship

Yesterday was FRIENDSHIP day... it started with a phone chat...

... with my fabulous Kentucky friends... Jean Kaye and Bobby Foree

I was worried about the tornados which came just north of their community... thankfully, they were safe and others I love in Kentucky were safe, as well... so sad for the losses there, though... so many need our prayers!

This picture of JK and Bobs is from when we met at DFW airport for a 2 hour chat in September.  They were flying through from Canada back to Kentucky... It's never long enough... we could never truly catch up! We were flying through the same day, same lay over in DFW!

... they live in beautiful, northern Kentucky...and we are more like family than friends ~ they are the most incredibly wonderful people... (there are so many wonderful friends  who live in Kentucky and also live in my heart)... JK and Bobs live on a farm... they raise Polled Herefords... he is also an attorney...she is a librarian... she is a terrific pianist... he loves the land... we had babies around the same time... they have two amazing grown children... I really *heart* these  people!

These are Polled Herefords like the ones raised on their farm... Bobs is really good at this!

With Jean Kaye and Bobs..I have more memories than I could ever share from my 5 years in New Castle (been gone for 26 years)...  but, here are just a few!

... cultivating beautiful tomatoes in their garden on the farm
... canning those tomatoes to eat all year long
... watching a Polled Hereford give birth (prolapsed uterus and all...) yes, it was a memory
... driving to Louisville for Thanksgiving Dinner to find out all the restaurants were closed!
... having our babies... raising toddlers...
... sharing recipes
... loving to sew, create our own clothes
... flashlights for Christmas
... horse farms... beautiful horse farms... seeing the famous Secretariat
... singing around the piano and the organ in their beautiful home (Bobs plays organ)
... JK accompanying me when I sang... hearing her play at church
... eating around their table (people in KY do elegant tables really well!!)
... surprising me at my daughter's wedding in TX... helping dismantle the reception
... Driving to DFW in the snow on JK's 50th birthday visit to TX
... beating the 'dead horse'
... being there in times of joy and times of sorrow and always holding me up in love!

Jk and Bobs are the kind of folks that when you talk, it's like you pick right up where you left off... it's been too long since I've seen them... just too long!

In fact, I have dozens of great Kentucky friendships! I'll be blogging about them shortly!

Here is one of the recipes from Kentucky that Jean Kaye shared with me years ago!

It's really pretty on your table... and really delish!!

Frozen Fruit Slush

Dissolve:  2 c sugar in 4 c water
(you can use sugar substitute or less sugar)
Add:     1 6 oz. can orange juice
        1 6 oz. can lemonade
1 lg. can pineapple (crushed) don't drain
1 lg. can drained mandarin oranges
       5 lg. bananas (diced)
   1 jar drained maraschino cherries
Freeze.   Thaw before serving (May be refrozed)
Thanks! Jean Kaye Foree

I hope you enjoy!! It's really best if you serve it before it's completely thawed!

I went to church this morning... came home and rehearsed awhile, which is always healing for my soul... singing is physical... it's work...  it's soul work... endorphins surge!!

I had loads of fun last night... to come in the next blog... I need to load some pics!

Thanks for reading my blog!

La - Ti - Do!
